The Opening Of Craigburn's New Environmental Learning Centre

Today was the day Craigburn Primary School  opened its new Environmental Learning Centre. Many people have been working very hard for a long time to make sure the centre was ready. It looks fantastic and it’s s a credit to those wonderful parents, teachers and helpers who have put in many hours of hard work to ensure the centre is a great success for all Craigburn community members who visit it.

Our class was fortunate to have a guided tour of the centre led by our buddy class members. It was great to see the wonder, excitement and expectation on the children’s faces as they explored this new learning space.

The school celebrated the opening with a whole school assembly with each buddy class making a presentation to the audience.

Our class along with Miss Grant’s class who  busily collected recyclables won the inaugural gold recycling bin!

Have a look at the Photopeach slideshow to see all the fun things that happened.

Do you have an Environmental Learning Centre?

What do you do in your centre?

Have you cooked with the things you have grown?

It’s going to be an exciting day on Friday when we get to have a student led guided tour of the centre. We are also having a bbq and a special assembly.

In this Smilebox presentation you can see our pet rocks and why we love them!

How To Make A Lego Movie

Kelton and Riley were so excited about their Lego Movie that they wanted to show other children how to use it. We used another really good App called Explain Everything to demonstrate the steps necessary to make a successful movie.

Here is their lesson on how to make a Lego Movie.

Using Lego Movie

Last week Tony Richards spoke to the teachers about worthwhile apps and programs we could use with i-pads and i-pods. One of the apps he suggested we look at was ‘Lego Movie’.

So… we have been experimenting with it and Kelton and Riley are so excited to share with you their newest movie.

Mrs. K has her own Youtube account now thanks to Tony and we uploaded the movie to Youtube and embeded it into our blog.

We hope you like the movie. The boys are thrilled with their production!

In2Cricket

Today we had a visit from Tash and Craig. They are cricket players and they showed us some skills we need in order to play cricket. They are sponsored by the Milo company. Four stations were set up and we moved around the stations doing different activities as we went. If we were really clever we could score points!

It was lots of fun, even if it was really windy. We can’t wait to eat our Milo!

Favourite Websites

This week for Show and Tell the children have to talk to us about their favourite website. It needs to be appropriate and if it is a site that we can learn from that would be a bonus!
The children must search for the site, demonstrate to us what is on the site and talk to us about why it is their favourite site.

Here are today’s Show and Tell people. The other websites will be put onto our ‘Favourite Websites Page’.

Antonia: www.cbeebies.com

Riley: ABC4Kids

Amy: PBS Kids

Jessica: Funbrain

Kynan and Kai: Our Class Blog

Emily: Possums Enchanted Learning

What are your favourite websites?

Place Value

Today in Maths we continued to learn about Place Value. In Year One we have to recognise, model, read, write and order numbers to at least 100. We have to also understand the place value of numbers.

We have been working on this for a couple of weeks. Today we watched a fun Youtube video about Ones, Tens and Hundreds and we played the Bankers game (base 10 game). It was a fantastic way to reinforce the children’s learning.

Here is the video for you to look at:
http://youtu.be/vZLbnFE_Yf4

We found a partner and together we rolled a dice and added ones, tens and hundreds blocks. We had to know at all times how many blocks we had. Here are some photos of us working.

We are going to play this game again. It was a fun way to learn about Place Value!

Open Night At Craigburn Primary School

Last night was Open Night. This is a night when family and friends can visit every class in our school and see all the great learning that is happening across the school. Specialist teachers also open their rooms so that parents who don’t get the opportunity to see all the great things their children do, can talk with their children about things taught.

What a great night it was! My room at times was completely full!  There were lots of discussions happening and parents talking to other parents about “how education has changed” and  “what a lovely place it is to be”.We had the i-pads and i-pods in use which proved to be very popular!

Many thanks to those visitors who posted a comment on our wall wisher. We loved reading them!
