On Wednesday our Year 4 to 6 students were fortunate to participate in an Authors Workshop by local author Charlie Archbold.
The students and staff were highly engaged as Charlie encouraged us to reflect on our own creativity, inspirations, curiosities & problem solving skills.
Charlie shared insights into her writing process and the inspiration behind her adventure/mystery novels ‘The Sugarcane Kids’ set in Far North Queensland.
Charlie’s stories have a strong environmental message about caring for our wildlife & habitats. We connected with the character Washington, the escape artist sausage dog, who helps the protagonists solve mysteries. Charlie shared the real life mystery of the ill-fated red-bottomed boat, washed up in the mangroves in Far North Queensland after a cyclone, becoming the inspiration behind one of her books.
Thank you to Charlie for sharing her expertise and craft and for the students of Craigburn for engaging respectfully and asking fantastic questions about the writing, editing and publishing processes.
