The Weekly Wrap – Term 4 Week 1 – 2024

We are delighted to welcome everyone back to school on Monday, 14th October. We hope you had the chance to enjoy some quality family time over the holiday break and October long weekend, and that everyone is feeling rested and ready for the final term of the year.

Staffing Update

We are pleased to introduce Kieran Buhagiar, who will be stepping in to teach the Year 6 B8 class while Andrea Grant is on leave this term.

Olivia Dean has now completed her teaching duties in the Year 2 A3 class, and we sincerely thank her for her efforts  and dedication over the past three terms. We wish Olivia all the best as she prepares for the safe arrival of her baby early next year. We welcome Claire Loveband, who will be teaching on Thursdays and Fridays.

Dr Sue Gaardboe, who has been with us this year in a specialist STEM teaching role has been seconded to the Department to work on a project that partners industries with problem based learning in schools. We thank Sue for her excellent work in leading our Year 6 STEM leaders.

Special Congratulations:

Pip Tonkin recently got married in the holidays. Pip will be on leave for the first week, with Petrea Fokkens covering her E25 Year 1 class.

Tahlia Woolford became engaged while holidaying in New Zealand. Tahlia will be on leave for the first two weeks of term, with Rebecca Drozdoff teaching the D21 Receptions class.

What’s Coming Up in Term 4

Term 4 is always a busy and exciting time, and this year is no different. We have plenty of special events to look forward to, including: World Teachers’ Day, Jam Band, Year 4/5 and Year 6 camps, Student Disco, Quiz Night, Transition programs for new Reception students and Year 6 students moving on to high school, Learner Achievement Assembly, Volunteers Morning Tea, Craigburn’s Got Talent, Celebration Night and Year 6 Graduation.

Please take a moment to check the Term 4 planner (included below) for all of the important dates.

As we begin the final term, we’re also starting preparations for the 2025 school year. This will include planning class structures based on projected enrolments and finalising staffing arrangements. We’ll be providing more information about this as the term progresses, so please stay tuned.

Finally, we want to give a special mention to our Year 6 students and their families as they begin their final term in primary school. We hope it’s a memorable and rewarding time as they prepare to move on to the next stage of their schooling journey.

We look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday!

Reminder – Quiz Night – Saturday 9th November

Our Friends of Craigburn team have been busy preparing our Movie Themed Quiz Night  to be held in the school gym on Saturday 9th November.  Great to see tables being booked. We’re also reaching out to our wonderful school community to help make our upcoming Quiz Night a success.

We are seeking donations of goods, vouchers, or services that can be used for auction items and prizes. No contribution is too small, and everything you give will help us raise essential funds for the refurbishment of our library shelving systems, directly benefiting our students.

Celebration Night Chocolate Wrapper Competition

As shared with students at last term’s final day assembly, Craigburn Primary students have the opportunity to design their own chocolate bar wrapper along the theme of ‘Celebration’. Read more here.

Friends of Craigburn – Shout Out!

We are always looking for parents to support various school activities and initiatives, especially the Friends of Craigburn – our parent and community engagement team. This term, we would be grateful for parents to help with the planning and running of the Student Disco, Quiz Night and Christmas Raffle for Celebration Night. If you are available and can assist in any way with any of these activities, please let us know by contacting Tamara McMaster (convenor of the Friends of Craigburn group) via email CPS.FOC466@schools.sa.edu.au or the front office.

Reminder – New School Dress Code

As part of our commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment, we are developing a new dress code guided by the Education and Children’s Services Act 2019. This code will reflect our community’s values and needs, ensuring that students are comfortable, safe, and able to express themselves.

We invite all parents, students, and staff to share their thoughts through a brief survey. Your feedback is essential in shaping a dress code that promotes a positive school identity while considering safety, comfort, diversity, and affordability.

Please take a moment to fully read through the School Dress Code – Parent Feedback post and participate in the survey by Sunday, October 20th. Your input will help us create a dress code that benefits our entire school community.

Student Free Day Reminder – Monday 25th November

Our final student free day is scheduled for Monday 25th November, endorsed by our Governing Council earlier this year.

On this day, school staff will be working on analysing a range of student learning data to inform future planning and learning for the 2025 school year. Results from this year’s Progressive Achievement Tests in Maths and Reading, NAPLAN and Phonics Screening Tests, and reading test results.

Reception Transition

Reception Transition days for our 2024 Reception Intake will occur on Wednesdays of Weeks 5, 6 and 7, being the 13th, 20th and 27th of November.

Friendly Reminders

Traffic and Parking and the Heath Lane reserve area

We would like to remind everyone about the importance of safe and responsible parking around the school, particularly in the Heath Lane reserve area. We’ve had reports from local residents of cars parking on footpaths, creating access issues to their properties. Please remember to park thoughtfully and use the Kiss and Drop zone as per the signage.

Hats back on!

Please ensure your child has a hat before they come to school every day.  School hats are required for recess, lunch and other outdoor learning activities. School hats can be purchased through Qkr!, or at the front office.

Planning for 2025

Planning is underway for the 2025 school year, which includes organising staffing, class structures and placements. To assist with our planning, we would appreciate it if you could advise us if your child(ren) will not continue their schooling at Craigburn next year. If this is the case, please contact the school via phone 8270 4144 or email dl.1226.admin@schools.sa.edu.au This does not include any current Year 6 students. Thank you.
