Friendology – Student’s Voices

Year 4 – C17  Social and Emotional

Over the last week we have heard from the students in C17 about their social and emotional learning which is shared below:

For friendology this week, our class continued to expand our emotional literacy by learning to name our feelings. We discussed the importance of recognising that we all have many types of emotions, feelings, and moods.

Some feelings are positive (feel good) and some are negative (feel bad), but they are all a part of being human, and that’s okay.

To help students understand our feelings words, we made ‘Friendology Feelings Friends’ out of our thumbprints, and labelled the emotion.

We completed the lesson by participating a ‘Mindful Me Meditation’. Doing mindful activities give our brains the break they need. Mindfulness is a practice that helps us to relax, focus and just be in the present moment, right where we are. It can also help us to visualize the best version of ourselves. Mindfulness can help us to focus on a thought or feeling and get comfortable with it too.

Just like how our bodies need movement, our minds need to be still. If our brains never rest, they get all ‘swirly and whirly’ and stop working well! Being able to name our feelings and participate in a mindful activity

, helped us to calm our minds and bodies so that we are better able to cope with the challenges of everyday life and be more present in our relationships and learning.
