A Week Of Swimming

As part of our Health and Physical Education program, the children are encouraged to attend a week of swimming at our local centre. This year we went to the newly completed Marion Swimming Centre where the recent trials for the Olympics were held. Our lessons were 45 minutes long and all children whether competent swimmers or not were given the opportunity to gain extra skills and learn very important strategies when in water. All children were taught what to do when in danger and how to grab onto ropes or floats when needing to be pulled out of the water. The instructors all did a fantastic job and the children thoroughly enjoyed their lessons and were challenged and encouraged the whole time.

Please watch the slideshow of our time at the pool and see all the great things the children did.

Here is a movie of our last day at the pool. We had such a fun time!

March 31st Earth Hour

March 31st is Earth Hour. We need to do all we can to care for our planet. Will you turn out your lights for just one hour to show your support for such an important cause?
Participate in the world’s largest single campaign for the planet: Earth Hour. It starts by turning off your lights for an hour at 8:30 pm on March 31, 2012 in a collective display of commitment to a better future for the planet.

We will ask our families to turn off their lights on Saturday night and to look at the stars and remember how lucky we are to live on such a wonderful planet. Thank you to the Blogging Challenge for reminding us of this important date.

Old MacDonald's Vowels

We had a Junior Primary Assembly today. We thought it would be fun to show some of our learning using the CAFE strategies. One of the strategies we have been looking at is ‘flip the sound’. This song helped us to remember what sounds the vowels make and therefore how we could use them in our reading.

It was a fun way to learn them!

Harmony Day

March 21 is Harmony Day. The message for the day is ‘Everyone Belongs’.

It’s about community participation, inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. The aim of Harmony Day 2012 is to encourage everyone, regardless of background to participate in a sporting activity, increase understanding and to be inspired or inspire others.

At Craigburn we had a special assembly  where we talked about including others and respecting everyone. We made balloons with our buddies and a badge to wear.

We also made a ‘friend’ who is wearing a Harmony Day t-shirt.

A Falling Branch

We have had some quite strong winds and today a big branch fell down by the parents drop off car park. It was quite big! We went down to have a look at it. In the photo you can see how big it was!

Bloging Challenge 3

This week in the blogging challenge we are looking at the widgets we have on our blog. A widget is an application that can be embedded into a site such as a blog or a web page. There are many types of widgets and we have a number on our blog. They can be calendars, weather maps, countdown timers or even pets and other fun activities. They are another way to involve the visitor in discovering new and exciting parts of a blog.
When you visit our blog are there widgets that you like to use?
Please tell us on our poll.

Blogging Challenge

We are taking part in a blogging challenge this term.

    • It is held in March and September each year
    • It involves 10 weeks of challenges
    • It aims to improve student commenting and blogging skills
    • It provides an opportunity to interact with classrooms all over the globe

As this is the first week of the challenge, we visited two classes, one from Victoria and one from the USA. We commented on their blogs. We have also had a look at the page on our blog called “About Room 4” and have made some changes.

We got this idea from the Student Challenge Blog March 2012

Audio Boo messages

Since Mrs. K added SpeakPipe to her side-bar we have been fortunate to have four messages left! Two are from our friends in Surrey British Columbia in Canada, one is from our Quadblogging teacher in France and one from Mrs. Nelson in Canada! It’s very exciting to be able to hear the voives of people who are on the other side of the world.
Mrs. K has put the messages into AudioBoo so that you can hear them.

Would you like to leave us a message as well?
