Reading

It was a beautiful day for the last day of Autumn.
We sat outside on the school steps and read.
We could read to ourselves or to someone. It was easy to increase our stamina because it was such a great way to read. We read our readers, books from the library and some fun readers Mrs. K found for us.
She was very happy with our reading because she could hear fluent readers, people reading with expression and lots of happy voices.
Here are some photos of room 4 being actively involved in their reading.

100 Words

Hello Room 4. When you have some spare time you might like to read the 100 most commonly used words.

As Year Ones we have to be able to read the words automatically.

Were you able to read all of the words?

Why is it important to be able to read these words?

Now you might like to try these!

Happy Birthday Craigburn Primary School

Today was a very special day. It is the beginning of many exciting things planned for Craigburn Primary as we celebrate it’s 30th birthday. We had an assembly for the whole school and many people attended. It’s hard to believe that the school has been here that long. There have been many wonderful additions along the way to make Craigburn an exctiting and inviting place to be.

We had Parents and Grandparents in the audience as well as past members of Governing Council. Ian Evans our local Member of Parliament also attended.

It was particularly exciting for one of the the students in our class, because his Mum has had a connection to Craigburn since it began. She was very proud to cut the birthday cake.

Mrs. Rayner helped us sing a great song to celebrate Craigburn’s birthday and you can see most of the song here.

Please watch PhotoPeach for all the fun things that happened! We loved the cup cakes that every student got at Recess time! They were delicious!

Quadblogging

Wow! We had lots of comments put onto Speakpipe this week! It was great to hear from our friends at Pinehill School in New Zealand. Thank you so much for taking the time to look at our Blog and trying out some of the games we have  there.

We look forward to spending time looking at your blog very soon!

Auskick

On Tuesday afternoon some of the children in Room 4 were lucky enough to attend an Auskick session run by the Adelaide Crows. The Crows are one of our local AFL football teams. The boys had a fantastic time and got to spend time with some of the players learning lots of great football skills.

Maybe one day the boys could be AFL football players! GO THE CROWS!

Author's Chair

Mrs. Kolenberg was reading her tweets one day and a teacher mentioned an ‘author’s chair’ as being a way to encourage children to write during Work On Writing  time.

So she bought a VERY special chair that people can sit on only when they have shown that they are an author and have done some fantastic writing.

The chair is almost magical and makes you continue to do really great writing. We can’t wait to be the next ‘author’ to sit on the chair!

Maths Game

Here is a Maths game for you to practise this week. It starts off easy and then gets harder.

   Good luck!

Click on the screenshot and it will take you to the website.

Read To Someone

Mrs Kolenberg found these really cute books on the Internet. They are “You Read To Me, I’ll Read To You” books. They are fantastic for Reading To Someone because you share the book and take turns to read the sentences.

There are different sorts of share books. Some are nursery rhymes, some are scary tales and some are fairy stories.

The sentences are colour coded so each person knows what to read and some of the sections you read together.

The stories rhyme which make them fun to read!

Perhaps you might like to read some of these books too?
