Welcome To Term 3

Mrs. K hopes that everyone had a fantastic holiday and that you all did some lovely things with your family.

Term 3 is sure to be an exciting, fun filled time with lots of learning. There might even be something special happening towards the end of the term! You will have to wait to find out what that might be.

This morning we got our little whiteboards out and wrote words to describe our holidays. Mrs. K then typed our words onto Active Inspire. She took a screen shot of our words to show you some of the fun things we did during the holidays.

We then wrote our words into our writing books. Here are some examples of our beautiful work.

Making Jelly-A Fun Way To End The Term.

We had a lovely last day of Term 2. We got to eat our jelly! We made it earlier in the week as a Science lesson. We discussed the steps taken to make jelly and the changes that occured during the process. The jelly was green to represent a pond and what made it really special was that there was a chocolate frog in our ponds!

We got to eat our jelly and frogs while we watched Toy Story. This was a lovely way to conclude our Unit of Inquiry about toys.

Look at the photos to see how happy we were to be having frogs in a pond!

Our Pinocchio Puppets

This term our unit of inquiry has been about toys from the past and present. We have been investigating how they have changed or stayed the same over the years. We have looked at many toys that we had never seen before. During our discussions we have looked at what toys were made of in the olden days and what they are made of today. There are many toys that are still the same as the olden day ones but they are now made of plastic and need batteries or electricity to move.

Yesterday, as a conclusion to our topic we watched Pinocchio.Pinocchio was a toy that was made a long time ago, but marionette puppets are still used today. We had a fun day today because we made our own puppets using cardboard and split pins. What colourful puppets they were!

If you watch this short movie clip you will see us moving our puppets to one of the songs in the film.

Using Lego Movie

Last week Tony Richards spoke to the teachers about worthwhile apps and programs we could use with i-pads and i-pods. One of the apps he suggested we look at was ‘Lego Movie’.

So… we have been experimenting with it and Kelton and Riley are so excited to share with you their newest movie.

Mrs. K has her own Youtube account now thanks to Tony and we uploaded the movie to Youtube and embeded it into our blog.

We hope you like the movie. The boys are thrilled with their production!

Super Tennis

We had a man called Shane come to Craigburn and teach us some tennis skills. We used rebound nets and soft balls. We caught the balls in nets. While were having our lesson it rained and we had to move.
It was great fun! The balls bounced a long way and we had a fun time trying to catch them!

Junior Primary Assembly

We had our assembly today and it was just lovely! All the Reception and Year One classes sang songs to the parents and children. Everyone did such a great job. I am sure the parents that were able to attend loved it. If you couldn’t make it, here is a movie of us performing. We sang a happy song called ‘Wombat Wobble’. We hope you enjoy it too.
P.S.It takes a little while to load!

i-Pads and i-Pods

We are lucky enough to now have access to 5 i-pods and 5 i-pads across the early years team. Together with Mrs. Kolenberg’s i-pad, i-pod and her phone we have one moblie device between two children. After the excitement of getting them we had to decide what apps to put on for the Reception and Year One classes. Mrs. Kolenberg knew that her teacher friend Ms. Lirenman in Canada had spent a lot of time looking at apps and then shared them with her colleagues around the world via her blog called Learning and Sharing with Ms. Lirenman   Thankyou Ms. Lirenman for sharing with us!

So we had a look at those apps and have started to put some of them onto our own devices. Some of my children in Year One helped me find the apps at the App store and together we made folders to put the new apps into. They were a great help. Many thanks to those boys!

We are very keen use these devices and learn from each other.

Here are some photos of the class using all the devices for the first time.
