TERM 1

Writing – This term we are learning to write a recount. We are talking about the 5W’s which should be included in the beginning of a recount. They are: where, what, who, why and when. Later in the term we will be learning to write letters. We will have pen pals in Mount Gambier who we will write to throughout the year.

Class Novel – Our class novel this term is ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ by Roald Dahl. We are creating a storyboard of the characters, setting and important parts of the plot.

Reading – We are using the Reading CAFE to learn different reading strategies to help with our reading. (C – comprehension, A – accuracy, F – fluency and E – expand vocabulary).

Handwriting – every day we practise writing the lowercase or uppercase letters of the alphabet.

Listening and Speaking – sharing topics are related to the unit of inquiry. Students will share each week and learn to ask relevant questions or comments.

 

TERM 2

Writing – This term we are learning to write a narrative and procedure. We continue to write to our penpals in Mount Gambier.

Class Novel – Our class novel this term is ‘The Enchanted Wood’ by Enid Blyton.

Reading – We are using the Reading CAFE to learn different reading strategies to help with our reading. (C – comprehension, A – accuracy, F – fluency and E – expand vocabulary).

Handwriting – every day we practise writing the lowercase or uppercase letters of the alphabet.

Listening and Speaking – sharing topics are related to the unit of inquiry. Students will share each week and learn to ask relevant questions or comments.

 

TERM 3

Writing – This term we are learning to write a information report. We will be learning to write descriptions and record timelines.

Class Novel – Our class novel this term is ‘James and the Giant Peach’ by Roald Dahl.

Reading – We are using the Reading CAFE to learn different reading strategies to help with our reading. (C – comprehension, A – accuracy, F – fluency and E – expand vocabulary).

Handwriting – every day we practise writing the lowercase or uppercase letters of the alphabet.

Listening and Speaking – sharing topics are related to the unit of inquiry. Students will share each week and learn to ask relevant questions or comments.
