The Weekly Wrap – Term 3 Week 5 – 2024

We hope families have had a restful weekend.

Book Week News

A big week ahead leading up to our annual Book Week Dress Up Day and Parade on Friday 23 August. If you haven’t yet caught up with the details, please take time to read these recent posts containing information about the Book Fair, Second Hand Costume Shop and Author visits and Dress Up Day Parade.

Dress Up Day and Parade

Families are welcome to join us for our annual whole school Dress Up Day Parade, which will be held outside (weather permitting) on the bottom court adjacent to the amphitheatre – commencing at 9.15am. Our Friends of Craigburn team has organised a Coffee Van for the morning, so feel free to grab a coffee / tea / hot chocolate before the parade starts.

Students can come dressed as a character related to the theme, Reading is Magic, or their favourite book character. We encourage students and families to be creative when planning costumes and utilise what you already have at home.

If you have any pre-loved costumes you would like to donate to our Second Hand Costume Shop please send them to school. Please remember to drop by the Second Hand Costume Shop, which will be open in the Library.  An assortment of book character clothes and accessories will be available all priced under $2. Funds raised will be used by our environment team for ongoing projects in our school garden.

Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair continues in the Library on Thursday 22nd to  Tuesday 27th August. Please check in with the Book Fair post for full details. The entrance to the Book Fair is via the side door of the library opposite the year one classrooms. We look forward to you visiting us on one of these days with your child’s wish list. Science Week Wrap

We’ve had an exciting Science Week at Craigburn Primary, with the theme ‘Species Survival.’ Our students have been engaged in various activities that highlight the importance of preserving species and understanding their survival.

A highlight was Thursday’s talk by Diego, a palaeontologist from Adelaide University, who captivated our Year 2-6 students with his knowledge of fossils and species survival.

Coming up on Monday, our Reception and Year 1 students will participate in a presentation from the “Bugs n Slugs” team. Kris will introduce them to the world of invertebrates and their essential role in our ecosystems. It’s sure to be a fun and educational experience.

Friendology  – URSTRONG Workshop Reminder

Last week, we marked “Mean on Purpose No Way Day” as part of our National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence. In line with our Friendology 101 curriculum, we focussed on the behaviour with the term “Mean on Purpose” to reduce stigma and promote healthy conflict resolution.

Students have been learning to embrace individuality, respect differences, and create a supportive environment. Our whole school assembly featured each class sharing insights on being a good friend.

The URSTRONG program continued this week with age-specific Friendology lessons:

  • Reception to Year 2: Embracing feelings.
  • Years 3 and 4: Making new friends.
  • Years 5 and 6: Understanding friendship “truths.”

Read more here.

Our Free Online Parent Workshop is almost here. Please register if you haven’t already.

All families are invited to join a free online parent webinar scheduled for Wednesday evening, 6.00pm 21st August

This interactive session, presented by Tyson Greenwood from URSTRONG, will provide valuable insights into the URSTRONG program and offer practical tips for supporting your child’s friendship skills at home.

Footsteps Dance Program

The program offers a fun and inclusive environment where students can express themselves through movement while learning various dance styles. These sessions are not only a great way for students to stay active but also foster teamwork, confidence, and creativity. Year 3/5 – Craigburn Blue V Glen Osmond (4-8). Although we didn’t get a win this week it was a fantastic effort from the year 3/4 time at home against Glen Osmond this morning.
