The Weekly Wrap – Term 2 Week 6 – 2024

Reconciliation Week – Now more than ever

Throughout National Reconciliation Week, students participated in a range of activities to learn about First Nations cultures and histories. On Friday at our whole school assembly, classes shared their learning about Aboriginal artwork, bush tucker, music and dance, sports and games, and dreamtime stories. Students also shared their learning about the Colebrook Reconciliation Park in Eden Hills, singing the Colebrook Song. We commend all students for their engagement and enthusiasm in embracing the spirit of reconciliation.

Thank you to parents and friends who came along to our assembly.

Student Free Day Reminder

A reminder that we have a student free day scheduled for next Tuesday 11th June – after the long weekend. Please check in with our OSHC service if you require care for your child/ren.

On the student free day, staff will be undertaking a professional development focussing on the Department’s new South Australian curriculum and the ‘Friendology’ student wellbeing program.

Life Education (Life Ed)

We are pleased to announce that ‘Life Ed’ will be visiting Craigburn soon, providing the ‘Talk About It’ program for students in Years 4-6 at our school. The program focuses on healthy relationships, including information on physical growth, emotional changes during puberty, and self-concept development. It aligns with the latest Australian Health and Physical Education curriculum and addresses the need for comprehensive education in sexuality, identity, and relationships.

Details parent information re the ‘Talk About It’ program has been sent to families of students in Years 4-6.

Life Ed has been delivering quality health programs for over 40 years, promoting the vision of ‘Healthy Australians living to their full potential.’ These programs empower young people to make informed, healthy life choices.

The ‘Talk About It’ program will be delivered in Weeks 9 and 10 of this term.

Additionally, we will be offering a parent education session to provide further insights and support. Stay tuned for more details about this session in our upcoming communications.

Senior Choir Update

Last week the Craigburn choir had their assessment with Robyn, one of the Festival of Music conductors. Every year, each school choir is assessed on a number of factors, including lyric knowledge, part singing, pitch and rhythm accuracy and expression.

I’m very pleased to say that the choir performed wonderfully and received a B grade. The students should be proud of the effort they put in, not only for the assessment, but in the weeks leading up to it.

The Festival of Music will take place in September this year.

Volunteer’s Morning Tea – Garden, Library and Canteen

You’re warmly invited to a special morning tea at our library on Friday 14 June – 9.00am start.

This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy some delicious treats and learn about how you can make a difference by volunteering in the library, school garden, and canteen. Whether you have a green thumb, love books, or enjoy preparing snacks, there’s a place for you to shine and help our school thrive.

Bring your enthusiasm and any questions you have. We look forward to meeting you and sharing how you can contribute to creating a nurturing and dynamic environment for our children.

See you there!

Weekend Netball Results

Year 3/4s

A big win for the year 3/4 team this morning against Clapham with all players working quickly and well as a team across the court and putting up some great defence. We celebrated the first goals for two of our new to netball players in the team too!

Year 5/6s

The year 5/6 netball team is continuing to improve each week. Game 4 may not have given us a win over Happy Valley PS (it was close!), but our girls continued to display excellent communication and teamwork. Whilst we may not have any wins yet this season, the girls continue to show up each week to training and games with a positive attitude and display great sportsmanship to all.  They are a credit to the Craigburn community!

Friendly Reminders

Plumbing Works – Front Entrance

We remind everyone that access through the main school entrance remains blocked off due to ongoing plumbing earthworks adjacent to the school gym/hall. For the safety reasons, we ask that children and families access the school through the car park area, which will be temporarily closed off to vehicles from 8.30am to allow safe entry to the school.
