Craigburn Campers
We are pleased to share that our recent Year 4/5 school camp at Woodhouse Adventure Park was a great success. During the camp, students took part in various fun and engaging activities and team challenges. It was wonderful to see everyone encouraging each other and trying new things.
A big thank you goes to our teaching team who organised and led the camp, making it a positive experience for all. We also want to acknowledge the wonderful parent volunteers who helped out throughout the trip. Your support was essential, and we couldn’t have done it without you.
We are also very proud of our students for their positive behaviour and engagement during the camp – as endorsed by the camp catering and supervisor team at Woodhouse.
Best wishes to our Year 6’s as they head to El Shaddai, Wellington this week.
School Disco Fun
Thank you to Friends of Craigburn and all the parents helped out on Friday evening. A fun disco was enjoyed by all.
RAA Street Smart
Last week, R-3 students participated in the RAA Street Smart Primary program, which was held on Monday and Tuesday. The program focused on teaching pedestrian, passenger, and bicycle safety through interactive and engaging activities tailored for young children. Students learned essential road safety skills, including how to cross roads safely, understand traffic signals, and the importance of wearing seatbelts. The Street Smart Primary program empowered students to make safe choices on and near roads, helping to establish a foundation for responsible road use as they grow.
Class Planning and Placement for 2025
As mentioned briefly last week, we are currently determining our class structure for 2025 and are set to begin the class placement process in preparation for the new school year. Please refer to the recent post, Class Planning and Placement Information for 2024 for more information regarding this process.

Material and Services Charges – Polling Letter
This week, you will receive a Materials and Services Charges Polling Letter. As you will read in the polling letter, the Craigburn Primary School Governing Council has approved the Materials and Services Charge for 2025 to the amount of $460 – the same Charge as this year.
The Materials and Services (M and S) Charge contributes to the cost of providing essential items and services used or consumed by individual students during the course of their learning. This includes printed and electronic materials, access to books, stationery supplies, curriculum materials, printing and copying for use in the educational program, library and information technology resources.
Please note, the M and S Charge also covers the cost of whole- school incursions, including Footsteps, Book Week and Music performances to the approximate value of $40.
As announced in the 2024-25 State Budget, the Materials and Services Charge rebate for the 2025 school year has increased to $200 per student.
The Governing Council believes the M and S Charge for 2025 at $460 per student represents great value at approximately $11 per student / school week.
As the proposed materials and services charge of $460 is greater than the legislated prescribed amount of $300 for a primary student, as referenced in the Education and Children’s Services Act, the Governing Council is required to undertake a poll to gain majority support from the school community for this proposed charge to be compulsory, and therefore recoverable in full.
The governing council therefore seeks your support for the proposed 2025 Materials and Services Charge of $460 to be compulsory.
If the majority of parents support the Governing Council’s proposal that the Materials and Services Charge be compulsory then all parents, carers (excluding approved School Card holders) are liable for this charge.
Each family is entitled to one vote per student per poll, with a majority based on the number of respondents.
If you have any questions, please contact Clare Aikens (Business Manager), Paul Luke (Principal) or myself – via the front office.
