This is our last week of the Family Blogging Challenge. We’ve loved reading everyone’s thoughtful comments each morning as we start our day.
Our last question for our families to try and answer is:
What were your favourite games to play at school or after school?
Can you explain to us how to play the game so that we could try to learn it?
We look forward to hearing from you!!
My favourite games where and still are netball, chasey, hopscotch, skip rope and softball.
Netball requires 2 teams of 7 or more players,a court and ball with a goal ring at either end of the court and who ever gets the most goals wins.
Hopscotch – needs chalk and a stone. You draw on the ground some boxes then you place a number in each box from one to eight then throw the stone into the boxes in number order and you hop into each box without stopping and collect your stone without putting your foot on the ground.
Hope you have fun learning games. P.S. Knuckles was another great game.
Hi guys! I loved playing marbles in the sand. You had to try and flick your marble to hit another one, then you win the one you hit. I had a rare marble called a ‘spaghetti’ everyone wanted it, but I wouldn’t play it so I didn’t lose it. Have fun with new games!!
We used to play born free. Based on a popular film and book. One or two people used to be lions who were free and other played hunters and others played people who were trying to help them stay free. The game involved a lot of running around chasing each other!
I am Lyn Evans, Harry Lemmey’s Auntie, his Nanny’s twin sister. During play time at school we used to like skipping, either on our own with a short rope, or with other children and a long rope. A child held each end of the rope for the others to jump over. After school we used to play netball and basketball and as we got older, softball. Harry’s Nanny was a better batter than me, she scored the home runs!! Have a good day everyone.
Hi All, Will has told me that this is the last day for the Family Blogg. Hope you are ready to use your reading brains.

Another game we played when I was young was making floor plans of houses with leaves during the autumn. Then we would around aour ‘houses’ and pretend we were living there.
Hi everyone.
I used to play
-four square (which I have seen you play already)
-marbles (try and flick it closest to the prize marble)
-skipping (also using a long rope so many people could join in)
-chasey
-what’s the time Mr Wolf?
-poison ball
All of them mostly outside activities so that everyone could join in.
I just remembered some other games I use to play. Mostly between 2 people.
-draw a grid of dots. Each player takes a turn at drawing one line between two dots. The aim is to make a box. When you complete a box, enter your initials and continue until there are no more boxes. The winner is the person with the most initials. You can have a small grid with only a few boxes or upto A4 size with many boxes.
-draw a mini golf course on a piece of paper. Each player takes a turn to place their pen on the paper at the first hole and flick the ink end of the pen so it draws a line. That is your first shot. Keep playing until you reach the first hole. Continue taking turns, moving through the whole course. The winner takes the least shots.
We used to play lots of imaginary games where we all played characters from books, like Robin Hood and made our own bows and arrows from bendy sticks and string.
We also played lots of playground games such as jacks or fivestones, french skipping with a length of elastic, skipping in a team with a very long skipping rope and cat’s cradle. Kiss chase was a big favourite, as well as various games of tag, involving lots of chasing and trying to catch people. Your school looks wonderful! I wonder how much it varies from our schools here in England.
I have to confess I am addicted to your blog! On night shift at work, the first thing i do on my break is see if anything new has been added. I loved the excursion photos and were able to show my work mates, their children don’t have blogs at school!!! Well done class 24.
Hugh says “I like the blog and it is soooo cool” and I like to play with Will. Hugh has booked a place in Year 2 with Miss Sporn (only 2 years away)so he can blog.
Hello, my favourite game to play at school is 4-square and after school is netball.
when i was at school we used to play “bulldog”. All the kids would line up along the side of the playground and have to run to the other side. there was one person in the middle that would have to stop them. once they touch a runner they go in the middle too for the next run. so after a few runs it gets a bit harder. then as we got older we used a tennis ball to tag other players instead of touch. ah happy days
