A Question for our Parents and Families

The 2012 London Olympic Games began in London on Friday the 27th of July.

We have been watching the Olympic Games with great interest. It’s been very exciting to see how the Australian athletes are performing at the Games. Each morning we’ve been checking the leader board to how Australia is going with their results.

Some of our students are also interested in watching other countries athletes. We have  5 students from England, 1 who has family in New Zealand, 1 who has family from Ireland.

We would like to ask the families of our class to post some comments about the Olympic Games.

Here are some questions we have:

  • Do you have a favourite sport or sports at the Olympic Games?
  • Do you have a favourite athlete at the Games?
  • Do you know any fun or interesting facts about the Olympic Games – please share your stories with us!
  • Have you ever been to an Olympic Games (especially in Australia in 2000)?

We’d love to hear from some families in the United Kingdom – they may have some great information to tell us as that’s where the games are being held.

You might also have some questions for us that we could find the answers for.

We look forward to your replies!

  1. I was hoping to post a photo of a street in central London which is displaying all the flags of the countries taking part in the Olympics – quite a sight. But I can’t figure out how to post a photo on here? Also I have a friend who’s going to the Olympics who could post a picture of their tickets. Is there a way?

  2. I’m enjoying watching the Olympic Games, especially the Mens and Womens basketball. The women are called The Opals and the men’s team are called The Boomers. From Mr Luke.

  3. I love watching the swimming, synchronised diving and the athletics. It’s been great having the Olympics in London. We were in Sydney in 2000 when they were preparing to be host city then we came home and watched on tv….we had to get up very early!

  4. Do you know why the five Olympic rings are the colours that they are?

One of the five colours used is in every national flag in the world.

  5. Do you know why there are five rings?

They represent the five continents in the world…..Africa….Americas….Asia….Australasia……
    and Europe.

  6. I love watching the diving because my son is a diving coach at a university. Yes, I have been to an Olympics. We went to the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York, USA. It was great fun! Wow, that was a LONG time ago! We are enjoying our summer vacation here in New York. Have fun at school!

  7. I am a friend of Sian Davy (Libby’s Mum) and went to the Olympics on Day 1 (Saturday 28th July). We had a fantastic day. We saw two basketball matches – China v Czech Republic and Russia v Canada. Both matches were very close and exciting. The atmosphere was amazing. After seeing the events we walked around the Olympic Park to see where other events were taking place and watched rowing and cycling on one of the big screens. Everyone was so helpful, happy and smiling. It was great to part of London 2012. A long tiring day with a 5.45 am start but well worth it!

  8. Hi everyone, I have been enjoying watching the swimming and the basketball at the Olympics. My favourite is probably the basketball, and my favourite athlete to watch is Lauren Jackson. She’s so tall and a great basketballer, but she’s also an inspiration for all girls who aspire to be whatever they want to be. She is a great speaker and was chosen to carry the Australian flag in the opening ceremony.
Did you know that there have only been 3 times that the Olympics were not held – 1918, 1940 and 1944 – these years were during World War 1 and World War 2.
