Personal Inquiry – Week 10

On our last day of term we had the final Personal Inquiry time session. Each student planned their own inquiry into something they’re interested in. After last week’s ‘cardboard challenge’ everyone enjoyed using lots of different materials for this weeks session.  Once again, we had a wide variety of creations made – some of us were inspired by last weeks session and made similar models, e.g. box desk organisers, and we also had lots of new ideas presented. Our session this week was a lot shorter than usual – only 90min, including planning and packing up time. Some students used the session this week to finish creations that they’ve been working over a few week – lots of working models were shown that had so much detail.

Every student in our class is building  a wide variety of skills and each week are showing more and more creativity and individuality in their learning. It’s fascinating to see what each student comes up with!!

After the cardboard challenge everyone is really interested in having more specific challenges given to them – do you have any suggestions for us?

Dance-a-thon

We’ve just finished our major school fundraiser for this term. We’ve been busy collecting donations from our families and friends to support us in the school’s dance-a-thin. We danced for 40 minutes and had a wonderful time doing it!

The school has had a major success from this fundraiser. At this stage we’ve raised aprrox $8000- This is an amazing effort from everyone at Craigburn Primary School.

Here we all are showing our groovy moves!

Personal Inquiry – Week 9

Our learning journey has continued during this term. We’e seen a lot of creativity and have seen how this time really allows for each student to show just how creative they can be.

This week we had the ‘cardboard’ challenge. We used Pinterest and some different websites to give us some inspiration. The cardboard challenge meant that our designs, models or creations needed to be based around using cardboard in some way.

WOW!!! The results were AMAZING!! This challenge really showed a different side to each students thinking and creativity.

When we reflected upon our session the students said they were a bit worried about a ‘cardboard’ challenge but by sharing ideas, looking online and having whole class discussions they felt inspired to try something new.  Now they’re asking for new challenge ideas – do you have any suggestions for us?

Here are all of our cardboard creations.

Allan Sumner Band

Today we watched the Allan Sumner band perform. They are an Aboriginal group with members from Adelaide and Sydney. We loved their music and all of the information that they shared with us, especially about the colours of the Aboriginal flag and the Torres Straight Islander flag. We learnt a lot!

Here are some photos from today’s performance.

Year 2/ 3/ 4 Assembly

Yesterday we had our last assembly for the term. We shared our Aboriginal Art work and stories from our last unit of Inquiry. We all presented our Art works and then some of the students chose to read their stories. The audience really loved our stories.

We also had a number of students receive Student Recognition Awards. The students who received certificates were:

Holly, Cailtin, Melody, Beth and Victoria. Congratulations to all  of the girls who received awards for their learning.

Jas was a great helper to Ms Terrell – she gave out the awards to each of the students.

Open Night

We’ve just had our annual Open Night at Craigburn Primary School. It was lovely to see all of the families in our school visiting every classroom and looking at the displays, play games, look at learning shown on iPads or iPods, look at their children’s books and so many more activities that were on offer.

Here’s a few photos from our evening in Room 4.

We also had a padlet up on our IWB for people to share their reflections about tonight.

Personal Inquiry – the creativity grows!

WOW – we’ve had another amazing Personal Inquiry session today- congratulations to every single member of our class on their creativity and inventiveness!! This week we had even MORE cooking, a dance routine – filmed in front of a live audience, popstick models, games made, 3D popstick constructions, Art works, tie dying t-shirts, models made with a mixture of construction equipment, books and technology used to present people in our class (very clever groupings Maya) …..the list is extensive.

One of the skills that stood out this week was teamwork – everyone got along with each other, supported each other to make successful creations, helped if asked, offered to help others if they thought they needed some support and gave each other lots of positive feedback during the gallery walk – Well done Team!!!!

We’ve got a short clip from the dance routine by Danielle, Sriya and Holly- what do you think of their routine?
