Sports Expo

Today all of the Reception – Year 2 classes participated in the Sports Expo. Mrs Pettmann, our PE teacher, and Mr Hanna, a Year 3 teacher organised the whole day for us. We spent the whole day doing different sports – many that we’ve never tried before!
We needed to work as a team, be a good sport, encourage others, co-operate as a class or with our team mates and listen very carefully to the instructors.
We had a blast!!! It was such a fun filled day.
This is how our day went.

Zumba with Bianca. We did a warm up game called toilet chasey, danced the penguin dance and a Zumba dance and then played the pegs on hats game and the ribbon tails game.

Wheelie net with Jacob. Jacob talked to us about all of the different types of sports that wheelchair athletes play, for example: basketball, football, tennis, etc. He also taught us about hand bicycles that can be raced over very long distances and be used in track races. Today we practised wheeling around, moving between cones and completing relays.

Life Be In It run by Ms Sporn. We had a giant earth ball. It is a huge colourful ball that we played lots of gams with. We rolled it, chased people with it, ran it over our bodies while we laid down pretending to be train tracks and ran it around the circle. It was great fun.

Little Athletics with Paul. We started with a relay circuit. We had to jump in hoops with our feet together, run over low hurdles, weave between cones and jump over 2 hurdles. Then run around a cone and back to our team. Then we tried the hugh jump. We ran in on an angle and then jumped over the elastic rope and landed on the big blue gym mat with our feet out in front of us. Paul was a great teacher for all of the activities.

Korfball run by Jason and Amy. Korfball is a game that was invented by a teacher to teach her class how to co-operate together. We practised shooting the ball into the hoop (made out of wicker like a basket). We needed to use our whole body to make sure we threw the ball high enough to try and get a basket. We played Titanic and Golden Child.

We had a wonderful day and would like to thank Mrs Pettman and Mr Hanna for organising the day for us.
The Year 3-5 students are having their Sports Expo on Thursday and the Year 6/7 students are on Friday. We think they’ll have lots of fun too.
