Travel Buddies

Exciting news!!!!
This week we opened a parcel from the State of New York in the United States of America. It was a parcel from our travel buddies. Each year our class swaps a buddy with Mrs Griffin’s class in New haven Elementary School.
We we opened the parcel we found:
Chopper – the travel buddy
Chopper’s Dairy – where we write about Chopper’s adventures
Lead pencils
US flags
Lollies – Smarties and Reece’s Pieces – we don’t have these in Australia
Serviettes
Books
Stickers
Booklets and maps about the state of New York
A book all about the students and staff at New Haven Elementary School.

We will take turns at taking Chopper home for a visit and writing about it.
This gives us the chance to learn about schools and children who live overseas – what they like, what they do, learn about their school and the activities they like to do.
At the moment it is Winter over there and it’s been snowing – which is very different to us. They live in the Northern hemisphere and we are in the Southern hemisphere so our weather is opposite. We will be doing some activities to learn more about our buddies.
We are about to send our parcel to them.
Do you have any ideas for items that we should include that could teach them about our lives in Australia? Please let us know what you think we could send to them.

Here are some photos that Will took as we opened our special parcel.

  1. Greetings from New York State! We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the package (we usually call a parcel a package here in the states). We look forward to meeting our new buddy. It will be a fun surprise to learn which Australian animal visits us this year! Have a fun day learning together!

  2. wow!!!! It’s great to meet people from other countries. I love visiting USA when I was younger and found out what we call a Serviettes they call napkin and that what we call tomato sauce they call ketchup. Do you think there are any other things we might call different names? You should asked them in your next letter. Great Job guys.

  3. What a fantastic idea. I love the idea of being able to share things like this. I wonder what we would include?

Take a look at our blog and see our photopeach of us playing in the snow on our school field.

Are you taking part in http://feb29th.net/ Blog the leap year – a global all age blog for 29th February (obviously.
