We are now starting week 2 of our Blogging Challenge.
It’s been wonderful to see the huge increase in comments being posted on our blog! Keep checking for our regular updates.
This week we have a question for the families commenting on our blog:
What are your favourite memories of being at school?
Let us know – we’d love to hear from you.
My favourite memory was going on a school excursion in 1979 when I was attending the area mission school in Jabiru N.T
The whole school got into the back of a very large mining dump truck and we drove to The Jim Jim river and went swimming. There was a huge crocodile sitting on the other bank watching us the whole time. We were told that as long as you can see a large crocodile, there should not be any others in the water.
I don’t think you would be allowed to do that with a school class these days!
In primary school we use to have to do a health hustle every morning. I loved that the music was turned up really loud. I also really really loved scratch and sniff stickers teachers would give for great work. My favourite was the liquorice smelling ones
My favourite memory is when our class was learning about Thailand. Our teacher, Mr Law Davies, helped us build a traditional Thai house out of cardboard, straw and bamboo at the back of our classroom. We even had a real fish pond! Mr Law Davies invited some Thai people to teach us how to dance with candles and do Thai boxing. It was a very long time ago but I can remember it so well.
I had an excellent year 7 teacher Mr Coleman (he still teaches at Belair PS) He taught us photograpy and had a dark room set up where we could develop the photos. He also let us make lots of little films – I wish I had copies of them. We had our year 7 camp in the Flinders Ranges. One night we climbed to the top of a hill and the sky was full of millions of stars. The teachers told us stories of the Dreamtime and the only light we had was the campfire and glow sticks – it was awesome!
whoops I should have proof read that blog before posting – please forgive my spelling errors. It should say “One night we climbed….” and our “teachers told us stories”
Hi Miss Sporn’s class. My fave memory of school was going on (about) a Yr 4/5 camp to Aldinga. We stayed up really late at night and sang and danced to Abba songs. I’ve got a feeling that Cooper M’s mum and Will’s mum were on the camp too, because I went to school with both of them. We used to ride our bikes to school together, even when it was raining!
Hi guys. My favourite school memory was in Yr9 (high school), when we won the Open School Knockout Table Tennis Championships. We beat all other schools in the state to be the State champions. We got a medal which was presented to us at a whole school assembly.
Hi class, my favourite school memory so far would have to be last year at Craigburn when I was the Genie in the school production of “Aladdin”. I had to audition, then learn all the lines. We had to rehearse a lot and even had to come to a few rehearsals at school on a Sunday. It was exhausting but I loved it. If Craigburn ever has another production you should all audition for a part coz it was soooooo much fun.
Hello Class,
I was sitting in school at Colignan Primary School one day when an echidna strolled in through the front door. Which was pretty good but we didn’t know how to get him outside to the bush again! Finally our teacher was able to get him into a sack and remove him. Very exciting!
Hi Kevin,
Thanks for your comments on our blog – Sienna is loving the support from her whole family. What a lucky girl.
I can’t imagine what I’d do if an echidna came into our classroom. The worst we’ve had is mice – plus all of the pets our children bring in for sharing time, but they’re very tame(thank goodness).
We look forward to hearing from you again.

Lisa
G’day all,
My favourite memory of school would have to be the time that I spent in the Tech Studies workshops. I really enjoyed building thing out of lots of different materials. I guess that is why I became a Tech Studies Teacher.
G’day all,
My favourite school memory would have to be the time I spent in the Tech Studies workshops. I really enjoyed building things out of all sorts of materials. I guess that is why I became a Tech Studies Teacher.
I thought of another great school memory – it was actually my very first day at school in Reception (we called it Prep in those days). Our teacher Mrs Petty took us outside to lie on the grass on the oval – we had to look up at the clouds and see what shapes we could make out of the clouds.
At my new school I’m in the red team for sports day – we’re called Paringa. We had our sports day on the same day as Craigburn, and I felt weird wearing red and felt like I was dissing Bradman coz I’ve always been in the blue Bradman team at Craigburn. I guess I’ll get used to red!
My best memory of school was when Flagstaff Hill Primary School 1st opened I was in grade 5 (yes I’m that old) and Our Headmaster wore the best Fluffy Yellow Slippers (they looked like Big Birds Feet) to school! We were one of the 1st schools in the state to have carpet in the classrooms and we all had to ware slippers in the classrooms and leave our shoes at the back door.
One of my memories of school in Yorkshire, England, is playing hockey when the pitch was covered in snow and ice, spent more time falling over than hitting the ball great fun but very cold and wet!
One ofthe things I remember about school was when we had sports lesson and we were playing Soccer we had to walk over 1klm to get to the ground we played on. During the winter thre could be snow on the ground and we would spend time throwing snowballs at each other and then get told off for arriving late.
My best memory at school was being milk monitor and collecting the milk crates for our morning bottle of milk. Sometimes on special occassions my mother used to give me chocolate to put in my milk. Every day at school we had an assembley and salute the flag and repeat our promise to the queen. Then someone would play the bass drum whilst we marched into class for our lessons.

I love reading everyone’s school stories. I have many wonderful memories, too, like the hat parade. The whole school made or decorated hats at home and paraded around at assembly to some loud music. I also loved Friday afternoons because we just sang! I still know ‘Clarissa Cornflake’ by heart
I have enjoyed reading all these stories too – especially from Cooper’s dad about his adventures in Jabiru. We were there last month and saw so many crocodiles that there would be no way I would swim anywhere that hadn’t been checked first, but what a great place!
Anyway, the thing I remember most fondly from my school days are the friends I made, and you know I still keep in touch with a couple of old primary school friends more than thirty years later.
What lovely stories, my best memory of school would be going by tram to school with my best girlfriend Gabriel. I used to love returning home from school and playing in my fig tree with my pet chicken. I used to love dressing my chicken up and pushing it around in my toy pram!
My best memory of school would have to be spending time with all of my friends and going on lots of fun camps. The best camp was to Kangaroo Island where we stayed on a farm and got to go on tractor rides and look after the farm animals. I also used to love doing PE with Mr Loveband! One of my best teacher’s at school was Mrs Dzunko, who also taught Jamie in Reception at Craigburn!
It is great to read all the different comments. It is true I did go to school with Sienna’s mum and Will’s mum and we had a fantastic time at the Aldinga Beach camp. I also remember going to a camp near Clarendon which was a horse farm and we all learnt to ride horses. That was a great experience.
I like the challenge miss sporn
Hi, I’m writing from London, in England. Trent’s Dad is our nephew. Before I tell you about my school days, let me just tell you that I’m going to be a London Ambassador when the Olympic Games come to London in the Summer. The City is buzzing with excitement and I’ve got load to learn about London.
About school – well it was over 50 years ago. The teachers were strict, lots of homework and we sat in rows where you lifted the lid of the desk and put your books inside. We also had school on Saturday mornings.
I thought it was a very good idea to do a memories of school.
Have just looked at all your favourite iPad apps. I use an iPad so will download a couple or them so Maisie can show me how she uses them when I come to visit iin December. It’s a sunny day in Norfolk today. Maisie’s nana.
Hello, I am a friend of Maisies Mum and I have known Maisie since she was born. It was good looking at the photos of all the children doing their craft work. The classrooms are a lot different from when I was at school (55 years ago) it all looks a lot of fun.
From what I can see here on your web site. It looks to as if Maisie has adapted well to school in Australia.Looking forward to following her progress
