On Friday Bella and Jon received their SRC badges. It was part of our last assembly for the term.
Congratulations to Bell and Jon – we think you look great with your badges on.
Last Friday, the 2nd of April, we held our annual Craigburn Primary School Sports Day.
It was a fantastic day and our class loved all of the events we participated in.
The day started with the teachers and SLEG students setting up every event at 7.15am!!!
Each class met in their classrooms and then we went down to the bottom courts to assemble in our house teams – Woodford, Riley, Fraser and Bradman.
Ms Terrell, our Principal, welcomed everyone to Sports Day and wished all of the teams ‘good luck’.
Mrs Pettman, our PE teacher, had a variety of students talk to us about the different sports they participate in as the special opening to the day.
Our events for the day were:
We loved all of our tabloid events and had a great time playing them. We had lots of good sports and tried hard to improve our skills.
After lunch we held the Year 3-7 relay and sprints.
Then Ms Terrell announced the results:
1st place Fraser 1450 points
2nd place Woodforde 1350 points
3rd place Riley 1305
4th place Bradman 1285 points.
We’d like to say a HUGE thank you to Mrs Pettman for organising such a successful Sports Day.
Last Monday we went to our first assembly for the year. Mr Hanna’s Yr 3/4 class were the hosts and we thought they did a great job making sure the assembly ran smoothly.
Mr Luke spoke to us all about the new ‘Munchie Monsters’ that each class will be using to recycle plastic containers – we get to decorate ours with our Year 6/7 buddy class and recycle containers with them too.
Mrs O’Keefe’s Year 3 class shared some Play is the Way games, which were interesting to watch.
Mrs McMahon’s class shared their line Art work, which looked very creative.
Our class got everyone moving at the end of the assembly by playing the Average Asian Dude clip “Happy”
On Tuesday we had the Circus Challenge visit our school. On Tuesday they performed for the whole school and then on Wednesday classes had workshops to develop their performance skills.
The Circus Challenge education program focuses on Physical Education, Performing Arts and Team Building through fun, engaging and hands on experiences. The program aims to empower students to create rather than just consume. Circus Challenge is not a traditional circus in the sense there are no clowns, animals or circus tents.
We LOVED the entire performance and had lots of fun learning how to do plate spinning and juggling of scarves.

We’d like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Pettman for organising our visitors – they were fantastic and laugh us lots of new skills.
CAFE Menu
Each year we use the Daily 5 CAFE menu to help us develop our reading skills. CAFE is an acronym for Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency and Expand vocabulary. All of these areas of reading are extremely important and good readers know they need to read regularly to improve their skills.
We have a CAFE Menu in our classroom. At the end of each week we put a strategy card on the menu.
At the beginning of the year this is what our CAFE Menu looks like.
We’ve started the year off with 3 new reading skills that we’re learning about and practising every time we read.
In our first week we were checking for understanding of the texts we were reading.
We made sure we were reading “Good fit books’ in week 2 of practising.
This week we were creating a mental image for the words we were reading in our ‘Good fit books’.
Our class has created a great collection of ‘Friendship Recipes’. These recipes explain all of the things we value with our friends and list the things that are important to each of us.
Please take the time to read each of our recipes- we’re sure you’ll enjoy them.
What are the things you value from your friendships?
This week we had an exciting Sharing Time topic. It was called ‘Show Us Your Talent’.
This was a chance for each student to show us any kind of talent they had. WOW – we have an amazingly talented class.
Some of the talents that were shared were:
We have such an amazing class, with so many different talents.
Check out the photos from our fun and fantastic week – it just shows how we all have so many different skills and we can work together in our class.
Here are the SRC reps for our class for 2015.
We look forward to Jonathan and Bella being responsible, organised representatives for our class during class meetings and whole school SRC meetings with Mr Warncken.
Our reserves are Kyah and Harrison – in case one of our reps is away they’ll take their place.
Today, March the 4th, is International Read Aloud Day!
To celebrate this special day we made sure we had a long partner reading session for our Daily 5 reading today.
We read with a partner and chose lots of different books – big books, non fiction books about bodies and a variety of fiction stories. We also had 2 parents hear us reading too.
We love to read aloud with each other – we can coach each other to work out unfamiliar words, listen to the expression used by our partner, perform mini plays (each taking a part) and retell the story with each other.
